The MAGICIAN is the embodiment of intent and manifestation. This card introduces the suits of the Tarot which the Magician has mastered: swords, wands, cups, and pentacles. Each of the suits represents a different element: air, fire, water, and earth.
To be clear, when I say the Magician has mastered these elements, I don't mean conquered. The Magician has the utmost respect and awe of each of the elements because s/he understands that we cannot live without these elements, and the elements are powerful enough to take life from us. So the Magician has spent a lot of time studying the elements and learning how to align with the elements.
For example, the Magician might work with the suit of swords/air to birth hir intent by speaking it out loud as precisely and clearly as possible. The Magician knows that most if not all manifestation begins with an idea that is spoken out loud.
S/he might work with wands/fire to stoke hir faith and align hir intent with hir energy and passion.
S/he might work with cups/water to call in the feeling state of hir intent, align it with hir heart, and delve into hir subconscious to understand what the inner blocks are that might keep hir from having the faith needed to manifest hir intent.
Finally, the Magician might work with pentacles/earth to take physical action and the steps that will manifest hir intent into the physical plane.
These steps are not necessarily taken in this order. The Magician's motto is "as above, so below," which means that what happens on one plane affects what happens on another. Ie. physical action affects spiritual and energetic direction, words affect the physical, dreams affect ideas, etc.
We are all magicians and have the power to shape our own lives and manifest our intent.
