“Be Impeccable With Your Word. Speak with integrity. Say only what you mean. Avoid using the word to speak against yourself or to gossip about others. Use the power of your word in the direction of truth and love.”
Someone is very likely being a real jerk when the Five of Swords shows up. Is it you? Is it someone you have had to interact with recently? Is it me?
Since swords are about communication, ideas, and words, this card points to an argument or something that has been said or written that is very hurtful to others. It may have needed to be said (or not), but there are always ways of telling the truth that are more gentle than others. Sometimes the truth has to be told, but being mean is always a choice and never necessary.
This actions indicated in this card are actually hurtful to everyone involved. Even the 'winner' of this battle stands alone and probably receives no glory beyond the satisfaction of being right or feeling that they are better than others.
don Miguel used to always ask us if we'd rather be right or happy. This card asks the same question. Compromise and connection is another choice we can make. This is a good moment to drum up some compassion and keep the ego in check.
